NELSON AND TAHUNA The llopc of Nelson Temple held its weekly session in the lteehahites’ Hull presided over by Sister Sims, C.T., Linder the superintendence of Sis. Joan Mitchell. Hallowing tho (temperance lesson. !!ro. Somerville, of Bright water, read two letters from (loud Templars in England. The team to play the Tahuna Temple was selected and announced, with Bro. Ivan Roger, and 0. Mitchell ; i>ro. .Mitclii'll also rendered a vocal solo in a pleasing manner. Rid lies were submitted by Sisters Sims, L. Mitchell, Ai. Burns, and Woodhonse. (lames and a com pel ition were held, the latter being won by Sister May Burns, for which Bro. Watson will give a prize at next session. The item for next session is essays on
‘'Animals” for which prizes will be awarded Bro. 11. .McLean introduced friend Keith Russell for membership and lie was duly admitted.
The weekly session of the Hope of Tahuna Temple was held the previous evening in the Public Hall presided over by Sister Alice Howard, 0.T.. under the superintendence of Bro. R. Watson, of Nelson, assisted by lira. T. Somerville, •if Bright water. The last-named read letters of goodwill and greetings from Sisters Missus Carter ami Thomas, members of the Sons of Mars Military Lodge, London (England), the oldest Good Templars lodge in (lies British Isles. A similar letter of greeting was read from a Military Lodge mem her in Nilgiri Hills, in India) Tlie football team to play the Hope of Nelson Temple was announced with lire. P. McConehie as captain. The mail li is to be followed by a 1 oilic? scramble. Bro. Somerville promised u surprise for Ilia team that won the match. Tho prizes won at the previous session for flower word puzzles were distributed. Bro. Somerville submitted the report
of the Rev. J. G. S. Bartlett of Stoke, the judge of the essay competition on “Friendship” and for winch he had given a book prize. The winner was Sister A. Reeves, of the Radiant Morn Temple, Christchurch; Sister Molly Houghton of tho Redcliff Temple, being second. Other members of these two temples were keen and close competitors. Tho Rev. Mr Bartlett, in commenting on tho essays, stated that most of them contained some, very line ideas, and that the essayists had done quite well, lie remarked on the fact that no entries wore received from either the- Nelson or tahuna Temples, and urged the local members to compete in any further competitions. The Rev Mr Bartlett was heartily thanked for carrying out the duties of supervisor of the essays and for the prize he bad given. There was a record attendance at the session. Next session Bro. Watson wll arrange and introduce the items for the evening.
