AT SCHOOL OF MUSIC NEXT WEEK Benno Moisewitsch, the famous pianist comes to Nelson on Tuesday and Wednesday, 21st and 22nd June, and will give two magnificent recitals of music for the pianoforte, under the direction of J. C. Williamson Ltd. Moisewitsch is one of tho most popular, brilliant, and most serious pianists in the world. lie was horn in Odessa, Russia, on, 22nd February, 1890, his birthday being the same as that of Chopin’s. Ilis education was begun at tho Imperial Musical Academy, and he won tho Rubensteiu Stipendiary prize at the age of nine, lated going to Vienna to study under Lischetizky. His debut was made at the Town Hall, Reading, in October, 1908, and he first appeared in London at Lhe Queen’s Hall in November, 1908. A pianist of exceptional brilliance, power, and passion, lie has given innumerable pianoforte recitals, all typified by pianoforte playing-of so artistic an order, so sensitive to all lyrical or noble passages, so temperamental and j'rand in treatment of old masters and modern composers alike, that he holds a unique position as in interpretative artist.
