CONCERT AND DANCE AT BRIGHTWATER

Despite bad weather a very fair attendance assembled in the Brightwater Town Hall on Saturday evening for the concert-playlet and dance held under the j auspices of the Nelson Provincial Scot- . tisli Society. The selections of the Nelson Pipe Band under Pipe-Major J. Patterson were much appreciated and encores were demanded. Piper D. Wilson supplied the music for the Highland dances. The playlet, “The Spirit of Dreams,” went off well, and the young performers were greeted with rounds of applause at its conclusion. It was a patriotic production written and produced by Mr D. Malloch of Richmond. The dance which followed was an outstanding success. Mr and Mrs R. Freeman entertained the visitors at supper, and their hospitality was much appreciated. In the absence of Chief Shand Smith (through indisposition), Chieftain Johnston presided, and in a brief opening address thanked all who had braved the unfortunate weather conditions and attended in such gratifying numbers. Mr R. Harrison was accompanist for the evening. The following was the concert programme:—Musical trio, N.P.S.S. Trio; song, Miss Aydon; clog dance, Misses Flora and Ulva McLean; song, Mr Oke Barton; humorous item, Mr E. Berry; Highland Fling, Miss Iris Turner ; song, Mrs Cameron; recitation, Miss Bessie O’Hara; song, Mr D. Bishop ; dance, Sailor’s Hornpipe, Miss Peggy Folluian ; song, Miss Alison Kerr; duet, Miss Aydon and Mr Bishop.
