UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE MEETING

(J. Black M.P. (seeretsu'v), R. G. Molfatt and C. E. Morrison' (acting secretary). An apology for absence was received from Major D. \V. Talbot.

JL was resolved on the motion of Messrs G. Kilgour and L. Drummond that a letter setting out the extreme urireney of providing work for the unemployed owing to the Government’s sudden suspension of the Unemployment Board’s scheme No. 5 and No. LA, lie sent to the various local bodies and others. It was further resolved (Messrs 0. (!. Wilkinson and P. G. Molfatt) that this committee emphatically protests against the sudden suspension of the Unemployment Relief monies and respectfully urges that the necessary action he taken to provide adequate relief immediately to enable this committee to co-operate with the Unemployment Board as heretofore j and Unit a copy of the resolution he forwarded to the Prime Minister through Air G. C. Black M.P.

BOXING ASSOCIATION At a well-attended meeting of the Motueka-Riwaka Boxing Association, held on Monday evening, it was decided to stage tournaments at Motueka during July and August, nominations to he accepted from Blenheim, Nelson, Murchison and Takaka districts.

With a view to furthering amateur boxing generally and obtaining closer co-operation and better understanding among associations the secretary, Mr 11. M. .Johnston, was appointed as a delegate to meet members of the associations as the occasion arose. A letter from the Nelson Association concerning an incident which occurred at its last tourney 'was fully discussed, and it was decided to ask Nelson for further information on the matter.

'The meeting was of the opinion that the association should concentrate on the improvement of .boxing, particularly among the younger members, many of whom are allowing great promise. 1
