MURCHISON BRASS BAND
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the Murchison Brass. Band was held in the Public Hall. Mr T. Borkin was in the chair. The secretary presented the balancesheet, showing a credit balance of £2 19s lOd in the current account and £lO4 on fixed deposit in the Bank of New Zealand. The balance sheet was adopted on the motion of Messrs T. Borkin and U. Borkin, who congratulated the secretary on his splendid work against the present times. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The following officers were elected : Patron, Mr C. Downie, senr. (re-elect, ed); president, Mr T. Borkin; vicepresidents, Messrs Teague and Worthington (re-elected) and C. Hunt; bandmaster, Mr S. Borkin (re-elected); sergeant, Mr U. Borkin (re-elected) ; corporal, Mr J. Maelearn (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Nil- J. P. Laurence (re-elected); extra committeeman, Mr Clough (re-elected); auditors, Messrs A. Bartlett and J. Maelearn (re-elect-ed) ; custodians, Messrs A. Wilkinson and B. W. Cole; librarian, Mr Cyril James. On the motion of Mr Bartlett, a motion of sympathy was carried with the relatives of the lafe W. Spiers and M. Lynch (formerly members of the Band.). Members stood when the motion was put. Mr J. B. Milligan was engaged as conductor for. the ensuing year. The president commented on the sterling qualities of the band conductor and his good work. Mr Milligan replied, stating it was a pleasure to him to carry on. He also congratulated the energetic secretary for his assistance in the past year. It was suggested that the Band play more in public. The secretary urged members to attend practices more often. It was decided to start a winter class, the conductor and secretary to run the same. The secretary was asked to report concerning the erection of a headstone over the grave of the late Bandsman Roulston. Practice time was fixed at 7.30 p.m. Mr C'. Hunt is to be written to and thanked for his past services to the Band, The auditors and the secretary were thanked for past services. Mr Bartlett replied on behalf of the auditors. The secretary (Mr T. P. Lawrence) thanked the members for their many kind words and stated that he would work always in the interest and betterment of the Band.
