OUR “SILENT” CANDIDATES

(To the Editor) Sir.—So far, with the’ exception of one candidate for a seat on the Harbour Boaix! I have not noticed that those seeking election have in any public way given expression to their views or. public questions. Is this quite fair to the electors? Sitting members offering themselves for re-election, rely, I suppose, on their past. Their past and their future are two totally different matters in view of the very trying times in which we find ourselves to-day. As regards new candidates about whoso views we know nothing, surely they can not be surprised if they are turned down. We have been, as a people, far 100 carclss in the past as to whom wo placed in governmental power, which in no small measure accounts for the unhappy plight in which we find ourselves at this juncture.—T am, etc., ELECTOR. Nelson, 3rd May.
