GALA NEXT SATURDAY
A meeting of the organising commitlee of the Tahuna Sands Association was held on Monday evening to consider the question of continuing the gala whica Had to be abandoned on Anniversary Dav.
The following members were present: Messrs M. O'Sullivan (chairman), W. Liddle, E. B. Martin, 11. C. Sanders, E. D. Barry| T. Roberts. A. Clements, J. 11. Moore and Alf. Robinson
A statement presented by the lion, treasurer, Mr Barry, showed that tho previous gala, which had to be abandoned in the afternuoon owing to the inclement weather, had just paid its way. Had fine weather continued in the afternoon and evening indications were ’.li.it a very large sum would have been added to the Association’s funds. The committee unanimously decided to hold another gala on Saturday next, and desiring to assist in the efforts being made to alleviate the suffering of the Ilawkes Bay refugees, it was decided “to donate at least one-half of the net proceeds of tile forthcoming gala to tho Earthquake Relief Fund, and that the balance be devoted to relieving local unemployment ; more in the direction of providing work for tradesmen at Tahuna under the Government’s No. 5 scheme.’’ Matters in connection with the Gala were fully gone into and Mr J. H. Moore was appointed lion, organiser. Numerous attractions are proposed and the sand-inodelling competition which promised to bo such an outstanding success on 2nd February will be proceeded with and developed along most interesting lines. Various novelties are being arranged for both in the afternoon, and in the evening and those attending aro assured of an enjoyable time.
