SEARCH FOR OIL

OPERATIONS IN NEW ZEALAND

(By Telegraph-Special to "The Mail")

AUCKLAND, 9th December. Mr G. C. Creagh, when addressing the Auckland Stock Exchange at the annual meeting to-day, referred to "the long continued search for oil, the results of which may be of the 'greatest importance to tne Dominion, and which will be a complete justification of the optimism of those who in spite of discouragement and disappointment have persisted with their efforts to tap oil in payable quantities." The search for oil m the Taranaki district had reached a most interesting stage. Oil had been located from time to time, but on the whole the results to date had been disappointing, though at the same time giving encouragement to further efforts. '"Perhaps some might not be aware that over a million gallons of oil had been won from the Taranaki district alone, and who was to say that with the improved machinery and methods nowavailable there would not be very much greater results in future?"
