RESCUED FROM BANDITS
WOMEN'S ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copy right) SHANGHAI, 6th December. Mrs Hayward and Miss Goinersall, interviewed at Pekin after a 42 days' adventurous journey from Lanchow, accompanied by merchants and escorted by Monogols. Brigands made a surprise attack when the women were dragged from the party witli the intention of holding them "for ransom, hut the Mongols counter-attacked and rescued them. The party retreated to the mountains, /where , they spent eight freezing days. Although the provincial authorities had 4000 troops nothing was done to effect a rescue until a diplomatic party arrived.
