ANNUAL* GARDEN. PARTY
On Saturday afternoon the &&££> Garden Party was held at the Girls College when Miss Mills, the principal, received the many guests. • This year's exhibitioivpf work done at the College was most interesting, and showed the high standard of; work attained in, the art, needlework,, biology, home science and : Commercial departments. - , The pencil work, painting, designing and painted wood exhibits . were very attractively done, while the numerous garments and fancy articles; made by the pupils, demonstrated the practical results of these classes. Interesting exhibits were the Class Honours Books in which were extracts of the best original verse and prose written in each class. /. r, • Each department of work was indicated by posters done by pupils. An outstanding poster, evidently the result of many hours' work, is to be sent to New Zealand House, London, in nection with the College Jubilee next year. All old girls are asked to send in their names to the secretary. Classbooks of all departments of the school work were shown. The period History Charts were very attractively set out. ' An interesting exhibit wag a refuse bucket containing the usual household rubbish, and connected to each piece of waste was a ribbon leading to some dish which could he produced from the pieces which were usually thrown away, for example; vegetable fritters, clarified fat, bread pudding, bread crumbs, toast, soap, and pudding covers made from butter papers.
