THE SALLOWS OF BRAZIL
In Brazil there is a swallow-house which wifl accommodate some hundred thousand of swallows. Years ago Campinas found its market building was too small for its needs. The citizens hesitated to pull down the old place and dislodge the birds that made war on their insect pests, and so they built a new hall in the same square and turned the old one into a municipal "bird-house. When the birds migrate for the winter, the place is thoroughly cleaned, repaired, and prepared in readiness for the return of the swallows.
