RELIEF LOAN TURNED DOWN

. DUNEDIN, 31st May. A poll on a, proposal by the Dunedin City. Council to raise a loan of £20,000 for the purpose of providing work , for the relief of the unemployed was taken to-clay. : Ratepayers showed' little interest, as out'of 21,000 ratepayers entitled to vote, only 2807 exercised the privilege. Tho voting was as follows: For proposal, 947; against, 1816. Informal 36.
