A REPLY TO CRITICS (By Telegraph—Press Association) MASTERTON, 31st May. A conference yesterday' between,tthe Director of Town "Planning. (Mr. J.W. •Mawson) and other members of the Town ' Planning Board, and local body representatives, resulted in an almost unanimous agreement that the Wairarapa region' should comprise the area from Palliser Bay on the south, between the Tarafuas and the sea, to. and including Pahiatua Borough and County and A kit jo Coiinty om tha north- ,

During the conference Mr Mawson "dealt with, the idea that' regional planning and town, planning amounted to, “setting iip a new and costly Govern-*' ment Department and providing fat jobs for thin people.” He invited his hearers, to take-a good,look at the Department. It consisted’ of himself and his secrelary. Mr Mawson added that Jie did not-think it, would b'e necessary ,to increase’ the Town -Planning Department, now or at : arty,timG, unless.it was asked to undertake further duties..
