BUSY DIVORCE JUDGES
THREE MONTHS' WORK NEARLY 1200 OASES Nearly 1200 matrimonial and other domestic disputes were disposed of by the three divorce judges —Lord Merrivale, Mr Justice Hill and Mr Justice Bate-son—during-the Hilary law term which ended in London on 16th April. When the judges began their work on 11th January there was a formidable list of cases, and it was not generally expected that they would more than complete their tasks before the Easter vacation. -
They \ were able to remove the mountain, 'and even more. Having finished the printed lists they proceeded to deal with a large number of supplementalcases which otherwise would have impeded the* courts, for the rest of the legal year. These hard-worked judges cleared the way for what may prove a recor'd year for disposing of divorce cases. Last year there were approximately 4600 cases in England and Wales. The number of decrees made absolute in i92B.was 4018, or S2B more than in,1927, : and more than five times as many as in 1910. ' ::'
