HON. H. ATMORE

VISIT TO WANGANUI EMPIRE DAY ADDRESS The Minister of Education (the Hon. Harry Atmore) visited Wanganui on Monday last in order to attend the Empire Day celebration at Wanganui East school. He was accompanied by Mr J. T. Hogan, member for Rangitikei, /ind those present included the Mayor (Mr W. J. Rodgers) and Messrs W. A. Collins (chairman of the Wanganui Education Board), W. A. Luxford (chairman of the Wanganui Technical College Board), Van. Archdeacon CreedMeredith and Mr A. Goldsbury (representing the Wanganui branch of the League of Nations). Brief speeches of welcome were made by the various speakers, and the Minister addressed the gathering, at the conclusion of which Archdeacon CreedMereditli said that one enjoyed immensely hearing the Hon. Mr Atmore speak to the school children, and if they felt as lie did they would be thankful that they had in the Minister someone who not only saw the necessity for having high ideals, but one who was striving to exercise all his authority and all his power in bringing high ideals t*o our land. They all appreciated tremendously the fact that the Minister was standing so firmly for the tilings that were real and the things that mattered. |
