FINANCIAL CRISIS IN SHANGHAI
SILVER. AT NEW LOW LEVEL

SHANGHAI, 27th May. Silver to-day reached a new low level, the tael being quoted at 20|d. The bankruptcy papers of several British firms have already been filed. The situation is believed to be hopeless. Shanghai is enormously overstocked with silver, warfare preventing distribution in the interior.
