DAMAGE BY FIRE

DWELLING DESTROYED

OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

THAMES, This Day. Awakened by smoke and explosion, Roy Willis had a narrow escape from being burnt when a ten-roomed house on the outskirts of the town was burned to the ground at-3.35 o’clock this morning. Willis had been looking after the place during the owner’s absence, but this was the first night that he had slept in the house, which was situated on a hill. The fire made a most imposing spectacle. The fire brigade was helpless as there are no water mains near the place. The house was owned by. Mr S. R. Heslop, of Hikutaia, and was insured for £7OO.
