W.E. ASSOCIATION

FIRST MEETING IN NELSON Tho first fortnightly meeting of the Workers' Educational Association was held in the Education Board offices last evening. Mr W. Sutch, as loader, was in t'lio chair. For the benefit of those not at tho preliminary meeting ho explained how tho Association worked. For some reason, three boxes of lectures had come to them, so they could take thenpick of which lecture they would have, lie moved that in future it bo left to a committee of one or two to decide which lectures should bo c'hosen. This was agreed to. The secretary (Mr C. C. Wood), read a lotter from 'the Education Board replying to a- request for the use of their rooms. Tho Board explained that as various committee meetings were held there during the year they could not allow tho use of them indefinitely, but gave permission to use them for the first four meetings, to enable the Association to look round for another meeting room. Mr Johnston, secretary of the movement in Christchurch, stated that the lectures would ho coming weekly. Arising out of the first letter it was resolved" that the matter of finding a room he left over for a week. The leader then opened the discusision with a few introductory remarks, land read the locturc. A very pleasant ovoning was spent reading about V\ Uliain Morris and Burne Jones, and examining Hie accompanying plates. At the conclusion the subject decided on for the next lccturo was: "Mqdcrn Opera: Verdi and Puccini." Mr Colo said ho would arrange for a gramophone to play tho records which came witli the box.
