He launched proposals for a return to forty-eight hours in all industries; a tax on all wages providing a fund for unemployed, and reduction of salaries of public servants. Mr Lang, Labour Leader, challenged the (.lOvertment to go to Hie country. The debate was acrimonious.

The State Government's policy to cope with the present industrial depression includes the adoption of a system of payment by results, and in cases where the 44 hour week obtains and is retained payment only for the actual time worked.
