DEER STALKER SHOT BY COMPANION

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day

. An inquest was held into the death of Ivo Edward Cumraerfleld, a deer* stalker, -who died as the result of a gunshot wound, in the Euahine ranges on Friday. Albert Dick, in evidence, said that he had accompanied Cummerfield on the I trip. The two had separated as was customary, and after several hours witness shot a stag, which was accompanied by>. a hind. He followed , the hind ■through dense bush, but he lost sight of it. However, he saw something move in the scrub about 30 yards from him, and fired. He immediately heard deceased cry out: "My God, Albert, you've shot me in the stomach." The Coroner said that he could only return a verdict in accordance with the

medical evidence, and state that deceased met his death through misadventure, no blame being attachable to

anyone. It was a most distressing fatality and he could only express his deep sympathy with the parents of deceased.
