CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL ELECTION LABOUR LOSES SEAT (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The by-election for the City Council, caused by the death of Councillor P. VV. Sharpe (Labour), resulted:—C. E. Jones (Citizens' Association) 11,924; H. T. Armstrong, (Labour) 8,030. The polling was unprecedentedly heavy. Tho effect of the result is to transfer the balance of power in the council from Labour to the Citizens' Association.
