At the Dunedin Trotting Club's Meeting ihe Jean McElwyn-Sunshower bracket carried 2853 tickets in the Metropolitan Handicap, and was much more solidly backed than the second choice, Roi l'Or, wdio was entrusted with 1507 tickets. It was a fine race from the start, and backers of the favourites were early on good terms with themselves for Sunshower was first out from Athalone, while Jean MeElwyn was in third place just ahead of Maiwhariti, Bonny Logan and Linkman. Roi "Or moved up before a round had been covered, and with a mile to go he was in third position, the, order being Sunshower, Talent, Athalone, Roi TOr. Jean MeElwyn, and Bonny Logan. The pace was not fast and nothing seemed anxious to take over Sunshower's role of pacemaker. Sunshower, Talent, Athalone, Roi l'Or, Jean MeElwyn. and Bonny Logan was the order commencing the last lap, and into the straight. Sunshower easily held her own in the run to the post, and won comfortably, while Jean MeElwyn battled on very gamely to beat Athalone by the narrowest of margins. Bonny Logan was next to finish. Sunshower put np a good performance in leading from end to end. She has improved a Ibt of late, and may not yet be at the end of her tether. Jean MeElwyn, as consistent as ever, met one too good for her, and it seems that she is not destined to win a race. :Athalone is one of the unlucky horses racing. ' He again filled third position after being with the leaders all through. King Pointer showed great speed in patches, but ho mixed his gait several times. Roi l'Or found the handicap all too much for him.
