BYRD'S EXPEDITION
NO SIGN YET OF ICE BREAKING (Copyright from Byrd Expedition) (By Russell Owen) VANCOUVER, Ist February. "The weather is gloomy with a strong cold wind from the south hinting at winter. Yesterday we had the heaviest snowfall for a long time. There are no more indications of the ice going than a month ago. We cannot help comparing the conditions with the years Amundsen came. His ship came through the pack in five days. The ice. went out th 3 first year on 13th January, and the second time between 19th and 30th. Heavy ice may come in. cycles, and perhaps we are in the middle of a bad pack." (Copyrighted 1928 by "New York Times ' Company and "St. Louis Post-Dis-patch."
