NELSON PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE LONG LIST OF REMITS MATTERS AFFECTTNG INDUSTRY The Nelson provincial conference of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation was held in the Yeima Hall to-day. There was n large gathering of fruitgrowers representing all parts of the district. The president (Mr T. C. Brash) presided. The order paper contained II") remits dealing with many problems which one or more sections of the Dominion's fruitgrowers wish to have solved. He fori! ordinary business was commenced Mr T. 0. Brash explained that lie was in the chair because Mr Haining, the usual chairman, was u candidate for re-election to the directorate and had felt that in the circumstances he would prefer someone else to preside. Apologies were received from the lion. H. Afinore and Professor Easterheld. .

The directors' annual report (published in "The Mail" yesterday) and bale net; sheet for the Dominion conference were considered and in moving their adoption the chairman referred at length to Mr Dennis Nenl's appointment to the Control Board and the Federation's termination of his services. The chairman asked that his remarks be not published in the Press. The motion was seconded by Mr Forsyth, who complained that "The Orehardist" with the remits to be discussed at to-day's conference had not come to hand in time to give growers an opportunity to consider them. Mr Napier pointed out that advance copies of the remits had been sent to each association. "The Orehardist" had been delayed in printing. A similar position had arisen in Canterbury and Otago. Questions were raised as to the use to which the orchard tax moiiies were put and on the motion of Mr Nottage it was resolved that the whole question of the allocation of the orchard tax be re-con-sidered by tho incoming directorate. Mr Dennis Neal addressed the meeting about his relations with the Federation. Messrs D. Haining, J. L. Brown, Dicker, Chisnall, and Salmond also joined in the discussion which lasted until the lunch adjournment. A resolution was then passed that none of the discussion be published in the press. Mr G. C. Black, M.P., attended the conference this afternoon and was welcomed by the chairman. Mr Black briefly replied stating that he realised the importance of the fruit "industry in his electorate, and would always do his best in the interests of the growers. He also assured those present that the Hon. IT. Atmore was also a friend of the fruit industry.
