NEW BATTLESHIPS
NELSON AND RODNEY PROVISION AGAINST ATTACK FROM AEROPLANE AND SUBMARINE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Australian Press Association) LONDON, 10th April. New details of the battleships .Nelson and Rodney, which have been officially commissioned, show amongst the features of these wonder ships a steel deck with the heaviest horizontal protection ever fitted to a ship, making them the lirst bombproof vessels afloat; secondly, armour plating of the hull and gun turrets of such thickness as to be impenetrable under ordinary battle conditions; thirdly, torpedo protection on a scale never previously attempted. The “Daily Telegraph’s” naval correspondent says that lor the first time, naval defence appears to have mastered attack from aeroplane and submarine.
