New details of the battleships .Nelson and Rodney, which have been officially commissioned, show amongst the features of these wonder ships a steel deck with the heaviest horizontal protection ever fitted to a ship, making them the lirst bombproof vessels afloat; secondly, armour plating of the hull and gun turrets of such thickness as to be impenetrable under ordinary battle conditions; thirdly, torpedo protection on a scale never previously attempted. The “Daily Telegraph’s” naval correspondent says that lor the first time, naval defence appears to have mastered attack from aeroplane and submarine.
