GLENHOPE-TADMOR ROAD

(To the Editor) Sir, —May I through the medium of your paper ask Mr Black, M.P. for Motueka, if it would he possible to arrange for a free government grant of say £4OO to be spent on gravelling etc., on the Glenhope-Tadmor road. This road was constructed about forty years ago and is the connecting link tor the Tadmor and surrounding districts with the West Coast, yet the last six or seven miles from say Kaka to the junction of the Buller road is in a deplorable state—simply a clay road which is narrow and only negotiable in very fine weather and if culverts etc., are not broken down. , The Waimea County Council seems unable to cope with the position for lack of finance but I feel sure that if the road was once put in good repair the local bodies could keep it. I think in common fairness to the settlers living in the Upper Tadmor and the districts in general something should be done to better the present position. In winter the road is practically impassable. I am etc., „,_,_ J. ANGLESEY. Tadmor, 2nd April.
