CUSTOMS DUTIES

PORT OF NELSON INCREASE FOR YEAR The Customs duties collected at Port Nelson during > March amounted to £3867 4s 6d, against £3908 16s lOd for the corresponding period of last year. For the current quarter the duties collected totalled £9928 5s Id, compared with £9450 18s for the first quarter of 1928. For the year £51,009 10s Id was collected, compared with £48,685 19s lid for 1928. The excise beer duty amounted to £896 9s lid, against £B4O 19s sd. For the quarter the figures were £2659 7s lid, compared with £2663 6s 3d. For the year ended 31st March the duties collected amounted to £10,399 0s 3d, against £10,013 18s for 1928. PETROL TAX The petrol tax collected showed: Quarter ended 31st March, 1929, £1173 14s; 1928. £293 6s Bd. For year £3396 4s M. (No tax was collected prior to March 1928). The motor lire tax collected for the year was £59 12s; and for the current quarter £l4 16s. (Prior to> Ist January, 1928, this was included under Customs duties).
