Numerous c( ea ths are reported as the result of the intense cold prevailing over the mid-west, with temperatures ranging from zero to 10 degrees below in the Chicago area, and dropping to 20 below in the cities to the north-west.
Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, recorded 36 degrees below. Relief agencies throughout the area are besieged by the poor for food and fuel.
There is acute distress, particularly in Chicago and Milwaukee. \
