OPENED IN WET WEATHER

9 PALMERSTON N., This Day. The fifth Royal Show opened tins morning in wet weather, following several delightful spring days. Judging on the first day is confined to needlework, photography, and pigs/ awards in the stock classes being made to-morrow.

As an expression of sympathy with the Governor-General in his illness, the following telegram was despatched to Captain Boyle, military secretary: "Sir Douglas McLean and committee desire to convey sympathy with His Excellency in his illness, and wishes for a speedy They regret he is unable to attend the Show."
