“SAN TOY” SEASON
I’he Blenheim Amateur Operatic Society has gone from one success to another, and its Blenheim season of “San Toy was brought to a conclusion on Saturday night with a measure of success which eclipsed the “High Jinks” record last year. The quality of the production of this entertaining Chinese musical comedy exceeded expectations, and the producer (Mr Harison Cook) and musical director (Mr A. E. L. Scantlebury) were warmly commended on their successful collaboration. “San Toy” will be performed by (lie Blenheim Society in the Theatre Royal on Friday and Saturday, and a repetition of the Blenheim success can he confidently anticipated. As the title will suggest “San Toy” is a musical comedy set in Oriental scenes and relying lor the greater part on the action of Eastern characters. It tells a fanciful story of the Orient—how the beautiful San Toy is desired by the Emperor, the steps taken hv her father, the great Yen flow, to client the monarch, and the subsequent weaving of a romance which loads briskly inti) a complicated final e. 1 here are numerous principals, many wives, and an imposing bodyguard styled “The Emperor’s Own,” and altogether tlie comedy leaves no opportunity for dull moments, so quick is its action and colourful its atmosphere.
