TYRE BURSTS
A LORRY SOMERSAULTS SEVERAL MEN INJURED (By Telegraph—Press Association) PAHIATUA, 27th October. A serious motor accident occurred this afternoon in front of R. P. Smith’s residence on the main road between Mangatainoka and Ngawapurua. The rear tyre on the left side of a lorry returning from Carterton burst and the lorry somersaulted. The injured are Roy Rix (driver), severe cuts and bruises;* Pat Obrien, an injured ankle; Fred Hobbigan, a broken shoulder blade; Tom. Burke and Barney Worth, each a broken arm. The lorry belonged to Staig’s Enterprises. Rix, Obrien, and Burke were seated in the cab, the other two being on top of a load comprised of a merry-go-round and side show. Barney Worth, a man of unusual physical proportions, fared worst.
