When the question of synthetic cream was raised at a meeting of the British Dairy Farmers' Association, Lord Bledisloe, (Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture), said that there was also a "palatable substitute" being used on long distance ocean liners under the name of milk. It was, made by means of an emulsifier from Argentine b"utter and New Zealand milk powder, and was also used in certain cities. "I do not know that this movement is going to develop, but it must be clear to everybody that ths ultimate danger from this fluid, as a competitor - with the British dairy farmer, is most serious indeed." He added that at least it should be called what it was—a product coming from a combined effort of Argentine and New Zealand cows, plus a machine. It ought not to be retailed as dairy milk.
