TRAINED RESERVES ISSUE
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Australian Press Association
ROME, 24th October
While critics in London are attacking the British Government's luck of. frankness respecting reserves, "Giornalo dltalia," similarly attacking Franco, says: "Italy divined that the AngloFrench agreement included a military agreement. The Under-Secretary, Signor Grandi, on 3rd August, asked M. Beaumarchais point blank, but the latter averted a direct answer. It was not until 27th September, that Italy learned the true position." The "Journal" accuses France of trying to keep Italy in the dark, but the ciTtTcism is directed at diplomatic methods, rather than the substance of the agreement, in which respect Italy, with her trained reserves, sides with France.
BRITISH VIEW LONDON, .24th October. The "Morning Post's" diplomatic correspondent understands that the British Government considers itself bound by a promise to France to acquiesce in the exclusion of trained reservists from the estimates of fighting forces. He adds: "This does not impose an obligation on any future Government."
