EMPIRE SETTLEMENT
LORD LOVAT’S MISSION
(By Telegraph—Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Btli October. Lord Lovat, Minister in Charge of Overseas Settlement, arrived by the Niagara and will spend two weeks in New Zealand. At a civic reception lie said: “We do not come with any preconceived ideas. We hope to discuss with your Government the settlement of white population within the Empire. Wo still wish to send the right people to you, and you still wish to have them. I do trust that we may be able to bring the well-thought-out idea held equally in all parts of the Empire to a workable scheme.”
In regard to the Ottawa cablegram stating that the Canadian Immigration Department was considering a proposal by the British Government for the settlement of 20,000 British families on Canadian farms, Lord Lovat said: “It is all wrong and inaccurate throughout. There is no authority for it. I cannot comment thereon, as the matter is under discussion at the present time.”
