FORESTRY DELEGATES
SESSION AT WELLINGTON (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Notwithstanding their limited time, Ihe forestry Conference held a session here before leaving for the south. The discussion was mainly on the subject of growing exotic trees, which., the Hon. 0. J. Hawken told members, New Zealand could do more successfully than their native countries could.
Other speakers were more cautious and inclined to think that careful_ consideration of the situation was required before outside trees could he successfully introduced into their countries. Dr. Cockayne strongly urged a thorough survey of the forests to ascertain how the trees behaved in different climates and different habitats. Lord Clinton said that the conference would greatly value the views of men so experienced as Dr. Cockayne.
