DOVEDALK 8 V: TIKAOKAOS 0 The match Tikaokaos v. Doveclale, played on Saturday, at the cricket ground, was watched with considerable interest in view of the fact that the destiny of the cup depended on the result. From the scores registered the match became a semi-final; and the two teams will have to fight out. the issue at a later date. Had Tikaokaos won or made it a drawn game' the trophy would have been theirs. The visitors set the ball in motion mill Reed returned. McLean, with a mark, placed Tikaokaos in a favourable position and Flett gained further ground by skipping down the line. Haycock and Newport carried play to Dovedale’s 25. The ball returned to heutral ground after being handled by Lawrence, Win, Hawkes and Burnett. From a line-out in Tikaokaos quarters Dovedale took possession and Goodman was called upon to clear. Reed was instrumental in moving operations to the visitors’ territory where Tikaokaos were awarded a free kick. Rowling took the kick and the ball was returned to touch. Good following up by the visitors resulted in Tikaokaos being hard pressed, Goodman saving with a nice spec. Bradley carried on and Hawkes cleared. A 'passing rush by Jenkins, Duncan and Flett followed. Flett punted through and Hawkes marked. Friend with the ball at toe reliclied Tikaokaos quarters and found touch. OTHER GAMES The junior fixture Wanderers ,y. Huias resolved itself into a scratch game, in which: several seniors took part. The score was 12 points to nil in favour of Huias. Mr Gibson acted as referee.

In the third class competition Huias met and defeated High School on the school ground by 3 points to nil; Thorn scoring an unconverted try. The teams were evenly matched and a keenly contested game resulted. Mr R. Fowler refereed.

* VISIT OF OTAGO TEAM .Players selected to represent Golden Bay-Motueka in the match with the Otago touring team, to he played at Motueka on Wednesday are:—Foskett, Kirk, Wilkes, Clark, Lash, Scott, Hickmott, Stevens (wing forward), C’rosdale, K. Holyoake (hookers), 0. Hickniott (lock), Roberts, N. Holyoake, B. Rowling, R. Bensemann, Emergencies: Cowin, McKay (forwards); Luim, Gibson (backs). _ The Golden Bay-Motueka Union will entertain the 1 visitors at a dance in the Institute Hall to-morrow evening. V GIRL GUIDES At the monthly meeting of the Girl Guides committee, there were present: Mesdame's Stratford, Thorp, Ross, Wallace, Wickens, Livesey, MeGlaslien and Misses Wratt (2), Thorp and Pierce. On account of the absence of Mrs Edwards (president) and Mrs L. MaoKay (district commissioner), the chair was occupied by Mrs Thorp. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Green, Boundy and Miss Esther.

Intimation was made by the secretary of the Ngatimoti company that their birthday tea and entertainment would be held on Thursday. The hope was expressed that the commissioner, .district secretary, guiders and some of the Guides would be able to attend and so help their sister company. Mrs L. Mae Kay and Miss Tliorp kindly offered their ears for the journey. Discussion took place as to the date of holding the third birthday party of the Motueka Girl Guides. Mrs G. Wilkinson has consented to examine for the embroiderers badge, during the absence of Miss Esther. Mrs Ross has generously promised to donate a hook of Guides’ songs required by the company. ‘Miss E. Wratt (acting captain) read the following report: “Siiice the last report we have a third patrol—“ Poppy” —with Marcia Wallace as patrol leader. Our roll now numbers twenty, with three recruits. The attendance lias suffered on account of the influenza epidemic; but we are pleased to report that the Guides have now all recovered. At our last rally Mr F. Bowers was presented with the “thanks” .badge, in recognition of many services he lias rendered us. This is the first time the badge has been? presented by our company. We tender our thanks to Mr Johnson for allowing us the use of school court for basket ball and to Miss Thorp for refereeing the game. <The Guides and Brownies paraded on

29th July at the Presbyterian Church, Mrs Mae Kay, our newly appointed commissioner, being present. Badges were earned as follows: Thrift, E. MeGlashen; authoress. H. Tliorp and N. Hunt; knitters, V. Fawcett; laundress, V. Fawcett; land worker, V. Fawcett and L. Knowles; book lovers, X. Hunt; artists, L. Knowles. The Brownie report was as follows: “Since our last, report we have had an . enrolment ceremony, when Patricia Pearless was duly admitted to the pack. At. present we have eleven recruits. Three Brownies have passed their second class tests; and Blanche York lias succeeded in gaining her first class badge, which, when she enters the Guide company, will entitle her to wear the Brownie wings. This is the first time a Motueka Brownie has gained a first class badge; and the test, which is for general proficiency, is conducted by an outside Guider. On 14th August we intend having a Brownie afternoon, at which Mrs Mae Kay has kindly consented to present the badges. All test work is well in hand, most of the Brownjes enthusiastically tackling semaphore signalling.
