A wide circle of friends in all parts of the Dominion will regret to hear of the death in the Nelson Hospital of the Rev. J. H. White, in his eightysixth year. Coming to New Zealand thirty-live years ago. he was employed as a 'home missionary by the Methodist Church, being stationed successively at Cape. Egmont, Kumara, Kimbolton, Patea, and Brooklyn, his ministry being attended with conspicuous success.About nine years ago he retired from active work, since when he has been living with his daughter at Mapua, near Nelson, until two or three weeks ago, when he suffered a stroke, and was removed to the. hospital. Mr White is survived by three sons, Mr G. H. White, of'the Technical College staff, New Plymouth, Mr Sydney W.. White, the well-known London artist, and Mr 11. Temple VVmte, of Wellington; one daughter, Mrs Arnold Wells, of Mapua, twelve grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild.

The Mayor of Taihape, Mr A J. Joi>lin, died on Sunday morning, aged 66. He had been ill for several months with heart complaint. He leaves a widow, four sons, and two daughters.—Press Association.

Dr. J. Mnir one of the oldest medical practitioners in Auckland, died recently at the age of 76 years. The late Dr. Moir has resided in the city for nearly forty years. He was born in Clackmannanshire, Scotland, in 1852, educated at Glasgow University, and was appointed house surgeon to the Royal Infirmary, and later district physician to the Glasgow Maternity Hospital From 1884 he practised at Tauranga, and after four years there practised in Auckland. In 1899 he was SurgeonCaptain of the old Newtown Rifles. He took a prominent part in Freemasonry, and up to the time of his death was medical officer for « number of lodges and the City Council. He was an ardent deep sea fisherman. His children are Dr. P. Moir and Mr J. A. Moir, of Auckland : Mrs 11. 0. Jones and Mrs C. Whitley, of Auckland; and Mrs P. Rose, of Wellington.

Blunno. Italian consul for New Zealand, will pay a visit to Nelson next Friday, and* will be accorded a civic reception at the .Municipal Chambers. Siguur Blunno is well known in. the scientific world, and has done valuable bin-logical work in Australia and the Pacific Islands. Prior to his appointment to New Zealand Signer Blunno was called to Rome and appointed secrctarv to the International Agriculture Institute.

Mi- George Rruce. who died at Taknpunn yesterday, was born at Dundee in 1839. lie was on the sailing vessel Sutlej, which carried stores to the troops in the Crimea and was a spectator of the charge of the Light Brigade aft Balaclava, ami as a hospital assistant came into personal contact with Florence Nightingale. He came to New Zealand in 1867. Later he was secretary of the Oamaru Hospital Board for some years.—Press Association.
