NEW YORK, 12th July
John Raskob, chairman of the finance committee of the General Motors Corporation, was elected chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and will direct Mr Smith’s Presidential campaign. A THIRD CANDIDATE NEW YORK, 12th July. A third party, a Farmer-Labour-Pro-hibition Party lias, according to a message from Chicago, nominated Senator George Norris of Nebraska as a Presidential candidate. With the selection of Mr Raskob as chairman of the Democratic Committee, Governor Smith is seen to take the policies of the party definitely into his own hands. Mr Raskob was chosen in the face of much opposition, since he is a' Catholic 'and against Prohibition. Moreover, the appointment seems to be a frank hid for the support of organised business. In keeping with this policy, Mr Herman Lehman, a prominent Wall Streetbrjaker, has been selected chairman of the Democratic finance committee. WASHINGTON, 12th July.
