ALLEY’S STATUS

Regarding a report from South Africa about Alley’s eligibility to play for, tlie All Blacks in the coming tour, the chairman of the New Zealand Rugby lotion. Mr Dean, expressed surprise at the suggestion made with regard to Aliev’s status, i.e., that having once compiled in professional athletics he was debarred from playing amateur Rugby. Alley certainly received a small cash prize at a sports meeting some time ago. and in consequence was prevented from taking part in the New Zealand amateur athletics championship last December. The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Council, however, reinstated him .just afterwards, and lie now holds the Canterhurv and New Zealand varsity amateur championship. As far ns the rules of the New Zealand Rugby I’nion as to j pi ofessionalism are concerned, be has committed no breach whaPoeier.

The Ml Blade’s exhibition match in aid of the Olympic Lunds drew a good attendance for a mid-week game.
