ALLEGED BOOKMAKER

OFFICE AT AUCKLAND (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day Francis Robert Bennett was charged in the Police Court with loitering at Devonport for the purpose of betting on 28th and 30th January. Tho Chief Detective said that Bennett' was a bookmaker, and had no other occupation. He had an office in Swanson street. There was no name on the f ]oor, which was barred inside. There was a telephone, the number of which was not listed. Witness produced a double chart, which Jin said was published by Bennett. It had Bennett’s sign, “Bumble Bee.” The chart, which was picked up in the street, showed than Bennett had a £ISOO hook on the Cup and Railway double at Christmas. The defendant was lounging about the gates of. the Takapuna course on bobli race days, and was visited by many well-known punters from the course. The accused denied the charge. Decision was reserved.
