BLIZZARD IN JAPAN
COUNTRY UNDER SNOW DEATHS AND DESTRUCTION TOKIO, 2nd January. The storm has subsided, leaving many parts of the north of Japan,under 10ft of snow. Probably there will he 100 deaths, as many houses collapsed and many small ships are missing. A thousand coolies are clearing a track to the Akakura spa, where the Princes Chichibu and Takamatsu, brothers of the Emperor, are snow-bound, in order to permit of their attendance at the Ne,w Year festivities at the En> peror's palace. / Four Waseda University students who were ski-ing in the Japanese Alps and wiio were caught in a blizzard, perished. Seven of their comrades were rescued by volunteers from the town of Hino.
