A well-known local resident, Mrs John Herbert Hawes, of Central street, Matamata, was found dead in the washhouse of tier home yesterday. At tliM inquest the district coroner, Mr BanBrown, returned a verdict that deceased had met her death by being drowned in a tub of water and that the evidence was not sufficient to show how she got in the water.
