SEQUEL TO RYAN MYSTERY

MAN CHARGED AT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

A further move in an attempt to clear up the Ryan mystery was made by the police this morning when Charles Hogg appeared at the Magistrate's Court. Messrs G. E. Chisnall and A. Gould, J's.P., were on the bench and Mr S.' Moynagh appeared for the accused.

Hogg was charged (1) that on the 15th July at Upper Moutere he did assault William Ryan so as to cause him actual bodily harm; and (2) that on .the same date he did commit theft of £2li the property of William Eyan. The police (Plain-clothes Constable Hall) did not oppose bail but asked that it be made substantial, as it was touch and go whether it was a charge of murder..

Rail was accordingly allowed £IOO on accused's own recognizance and two sureties of .{.'so each. Accused was remanded to appear on 10th August.
