CHRISTCIIURCH, This Day. Fighting their way through a log of blinding smoke while burning timbers crackled and fell about, them, Malcolm Anderson and his wife and three children escape,l dealii in their beds when a fire destroyed their homo early this morning, for thesecond time in sixteen months. The house, which was situated in Lincoln ioad, was behind one of two shops. Now all arc in ashes. The insurance is -£IOOO.
Neighbours had to come to the family's assistance, as they escaped to the street clad only in night attire.
ANOTHER NARROW ESCAPE
LEVIN, This Day
A fire early this morning destroyed a seven-roomed dwelling at Shannon owned by Cottle and occupied by Chas. Rokle. The house and (contents were a total loss, the occupants narrowly escaping. Boyle lost a wallet containing £B2 10s in cash. The insurances were £7OO.
A BRISBANE BLAZE
(Received 13th June, 9.50 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. A fire in the. premises of Bickford and Sons, wholesale, druggists and general merchants, in Tank Street, City, caused damage estimated at many thousands of pounds*.
