The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated the 3rd June, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—
Butter.—Market steady. Official quotations are:—New Zealand: Finest salted, 168 sto 170 s per cwt (Is 6d to Is 6£d per lb); unsalted, 178 sto 180 s per cwt (Is 7d to Is 7id per lb); other qualities, 154 s to 164 s per cwt (Is 4£d to Is s£d per lb). Danish, 166 s to 168 s per cwt (Is 5-jd to Is 6d per lb). Cheese.—New Zealand mankets low With prices declining: Official quotations are: New Zealand, coloured, 87s to 88s per cwt (9d to 9£d per lb); exceptional up to 90s. per cwt (9£d per lb); White 86s to 87s per cwt (9|d.to 9£d per lb); other qualities, 84s to 86s. per cwt (9d to 9£d per lb). . Estimated cheese London, Liverpool, and Bristol: Canadian and American 14,800 boxes, 111,100 crates New Zealand.and Australian; against 23,100 and 56,100 same time fast year, Shiprnehts of Now Zealand produce arrived this week per Ruahinc and Argyllshire. : Hemp.—All markets quiet but steady. Manilla "A" grade, May/July shipments quoted £43 10s sellers. Sisal: No. 1 Tanganyika- June/August shipments, £37 15s. N.Z. market unchanged at about last quotations. Tallow.-—Spot market quiet with faildemand at auction. No change in prices.
Wool.—-Bradford business in tops shows slight improvement at about last quotation. Apples.—Argyllshire discharging and condition is good. Delphic nearly cleared. Fair trade and prices steady at present. Cleopatra, 16s to 18s; Sturmer and Statesman, 15s to 17s; Jonathan and Delicious, 12s to 16s; Dunn's Favourite and Rome Beauty, 15s to 16s.
Peas.—Good quality Maple New Zealand and Tasmanian on spot sell at full prices readily. First grade N.Z. close at .hand sold by spot sellers at 945. First hand offered 98s. Tasmanian afloat sold 975, and spot ex store offered 102 s 6d. Blues continue to be depressed and neglected. Nominal value No. 1 New Zealand, £l6 to £l7.
Beans.—Market quiet for imported. English meet fair demand, good quality winter making 53s to 545.. Cocksfoot.—Danish old crop practically exhausted. New crop not yet offered. Oats.—Market quiet but steady, and shippers holding firm. Plate for early shipment sold 25s 7£d; Chillean afloat, 26s 3d. April/May shipments quoted buyers 25s 6d; English choice Old White making 31s- 6d to 32s 6d; New Zealand "A" grade May shipment offered 33s 6d, bids 335. DAIRY PRODUCE The N.Z. Dairy Produce Board has received the following mai'ket report from the London agency, dated 3rd inst.:— Butter.—New Zealand salted 168 s to 170 s, now freely quoted 166 s to 168 s with 170 s occasionally; unsalted 178 sto •180 s. Market quiet. Australian finest salted 164 s to 168 s; unsalted 170 s to 1745. Danish 166 s to 168 s. Expect direct shipments from Siberian will 'be renewed. Retail prices: Danish Is Bd, North England Is 9d (London), N.Z. Is Bd. Germany: There are indications that local production is still large, but with a prospect of decrease shortly, involving purchases in increased quantities of other butters which in the meantime are attracted to England owing to high prices. France: Local production large; but interested in colonial.
Cheese.—N.Z. white 86s, 87s, up to 88s; coloured 87s to 88s, exceptional 905... .Market quiet with weakening tendencv. -
The Board has also received advice from its agents in Canada as follows : Butter.—Vancouver. 363 cents (1* 6|d); Montreal, 34;! cents (Is 5Jd); NewYork, 43 cents (Is 9h\) ; San Francisco 41 cents (Is 7Ad). Cheese.—Montreal, 18 cents (9d).
