GALE IN THE SOUTH
HEAVY SEAS ON COAST

DUNEDIN, This Day. ,; There is a strong north-east gale with heavy seas on the coast. ’ The Union Company's Waipiata, from Auckland, •is delayed outside- the Heads. There were no arrivals or departures this morning: Thick'driving rains are sweeping the city, with a howling gale. There is no sign of. abatement. Much minor damage has been done to fences and roofs. There wefe two power breakdowns, the second resulting in the whole power having to be. supplied by one transmission line.
Launches at Broad Bay were driven adrift. ' • : \
SHIPPING DELAYED
WELLINGTON, This Day. The Manuka arrived at 1.45, six and a half hours late from Lyttelton owing to bad coal and unfavourable weather. The Manuka is on the ferry service. The Marama from Sydney, which should have arrived this morning, was also delayed owing to thick weather, and arrives to-morrow morning.
