Official advice has been received that Dr. Franklin Kidd, director of the Cambridge Low Temperature Research Station, will arrive in New Zealand about the middle of August next. The object of Dr. Kidd's visit is an investigation of cold storage problems in connection with the fruit industry and during the course of his tour of the Dominion he. will visit the main fruitgrowing districts and fruit shipping centres.

The death occurred at Hanmer vesterday of Mis,; Ruth Atkinson, of Nelson, after an illness extending over two or three months. Deceased, who was a daughter of the late Mr and Airs A. S. Atkinson, was a well-known social welfare worker. A strong temperance advocate, the late Miss Atkinson had been tor many years a prominent mem-, her of the W.'C.'T.U., being president of the time of her death. Her loss will be, severely felt by organisations which had her active support. Mr J. T. M. Brewster, Waimea County Engineer, who has been convalescing oil the North Island after a serious operation, returned to Nelson 10-dav and has resumed duty.
