SCHOOL COMMITTEE’S ANNUAL REPORT
The Brooklyn School Committee presented the following report at the meeting of householders held in the school: — "‘Meetings, which were held monthly, during the year, were regularly attended by all members. “As indicated by the balance sheet, finances aro in a satisfactory slate, the
total credit being £24 Os 7d, made up of £2l 11s 6d in the School Improvement Funds and £2 9s Id in general account. Total contributions by the public for tlio year were £64 Os 9d. “At the end of the vear Miss E. D.
Fisher completed her term of office as probationer. Owing to the decrease m the attendance no further appointment has been made.
“The dux medal, presented by Mr T. 0. Chittenden, was won by Hilda Rowlings, to whom we offer our congratulations. “During the year a decided improvement was made in the sanitary condition, by the installation of a septic tank. Your committee’s quota towards this was £6O; total cost of the work £IBO. The cost of running the plant, since its inception has been £2 ss. The shelter shed was moved to a more convenient site, giving a slightly larger playing area, a wash basin was placed in ' the shed and a very necessary improvement 'made to the drainage of waste, wafer. One dozen rose hushes were purchased for the school collection, the nurseryman generously contributing an extra half dozen. A new flag pole, donated by your chairman, Mr C. P. Fry, has been erected, the necessary labour for tiic erection being supplied by the members of your committee. On 'lie southern side of tlm school the fence along the roadside has been renewed and various small improvements have been carried out. “Your commilteee forwarded to the Motueka School Committee the sum of £lO 17s 6d. £2 10s for upkeep cf old dental clinic and £8 7s 6d towards the erection of the new building. There will be no further calls upon the parents for this object, the Motueka School Committee having guaranteed to attend to the upkeep and working expenses of the new clinic. "A number of scholars were taken to Nelson to participate in the children’s demonstration on the occasion of the Royal visit, a most enjoyable day heing spent by all. “In conclusion your committee wish to express their appreciation of the generosity of the public, which has enabled them to carry out the, various improvements to the school and its precincts; plso our thanks arc due to the leaching staff: for their ready help and hearty cm operation with us"in all our undertakings, during the past year.” On the motion of Mr W. Fowler a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the secretary for tlio clear and concise explanation of the* committee’s position.
