Police-Sergeant Whitehousc, of the waterfront police, Wellington, is at present relieving in Nelson while Senior Sergeant Barratt is away on annual leave.

A private cablegram received in Blenheim last week announced the death in London on Wednesday night 'of Mr Thomas Renwick, of Dumgree Station, Marlborough. The late Mr Renwick, accompanied by Mrs Renwick, left just over two months ago on a health-re-cruiting and pleasure trip to the Old Country, and his death came suddenly but peacefully in his sleep from heart failure. He had been motoring until late in the afternoon, and was apparently in a normal state of health when he retired. Mr Renwick. who was 62 years of age, was born in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, being the eldest son of the late Mr Herbert Renwick of the Parks of Dumgree. Educated at Merchiston Castle School Edinburgh, he came out to New Zealand at the of about 18 years to his uncle, the late Hon. Dr T, Renwick, M.D., sometime member of the Legislative Council, and one of Nelson’s eariest settlers. It was Dr Renwick who, in 1848, took up the fine estate in Marlborough and gave it the name of Dumgree in memory of the old family seat in Scotland. The late Mr Renwick did not take a prominent part in public life, but was a leading sheep breeder and his property is noted for its high-class stock. He married about eight years ago, a daughter of the late Sir William StuartForbes, Earl. Mrs Henry Sealer, of The Parks, Seddon, is a sister, whilst- Mrs Renwick, of Nelson, is an aunt.

Mr J. C. Harding, of the staff of thfe Magistrate’s Court at Wellington, has been promoted to the position of second clerk of the Nelson Magistrate’s Court.

Mr C. IT, Thomas who was manager of the N. Z. Farmers Co-op. Assn. Ltd., at Nelson for some years has been appointed manager of the Oxford Branch of the company and takes up his ! hew position early in June. Mr Thomas is at present relieving at the Havvarden Branch, but will spend a few days tin Nelson before going to Oxford.
