FIGURES FOR NELSON A HEAVY YEAR During the year, just closed there were more bankruptcies in Nelson than for a very long period. The total number of estates placed in the hands of the Official Assignee were, 20 (including two deceased’s estates). They included five farmers, two ’bus proprietors, and one each of*tlie following, bootmaker, baker, builder, carrier, commission agent, fancy goods importer, hotel proprietor, farm hand, labourer, plumber, and stock dealer.

The increasing number of people who sought the protection of the "Bankruptcy Court is reflected in the somewhat stringent financial period which the Dominion was subject during the last twelve months.
